The Difference: Lifegroup and Bible study

The Difference: Lifegroup and Bible study

The two are similar in that they both function really well as a small group. A Bible study is usually a group that gets together to go over a particular passage in the Bible-the voice of God directly to us. Usually there will be a short teaching on the passage and then there are questions for reflection and discussion. Oftentimes through the sharing, relationships go deeper and great Christian friendships are sparked.

In a Lifegroup the goal is to seek God’s guidance, make a plan and put it into action. This is done through listening to what God has to say; either through studying His word or through observing some recent event that has occurred in ones life and asking “What is God saying to me through my experience of this event?” Prayer, reflection and discussion will be devoted to each person. Each individual will decide what action step they think God is calling them to, make a plan and choose someone or the group in general to be accountable to. The next time the group gets together, there will be a chance to share how the plan went.

It is a low control high accountability model that puts into action the belief:

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18
