Discipleship Is “With Me”

The truth is, we are all too busy.  I remember when I was a full-time paid staff member at a church.  At that time it was part of my job to disciple others.  The fact that it was a requirement of my job made it more doable for me from a time stand-point.  I just made it a part of my work schedule.  Now I have three kids, a  husband, a business and a ministry…plus all the should be doing’s:  daily yoga, walks outdoors, cooking healthy, reading, writing music, practicing the guitar, practicing the voice, practicing my jazz piano, practicing my classical and good old fashioned leisure. Fortunately, as it turns out, the best kind of discipleship is the only kind that is now possible for me.  That is “With Me” discipleship.  It’s really simple, whatever you are doing, invite someone else along to join.  Discipleship happens through relationship and relationship/trust becomes and grows only with time spent together.  Whatever it is that you are already doing, ask someone to come along.  Jesus did it with his disciples.  Most of their journey was a “With Me” experience with Jesus.  Jesus was doing ministry and invited all of them to go along with him and you can see from Acts and forward how that formed...

Dude, I don’t have time for that!

It’s very simple.  For ministry, do the things you already like to do and invite friends along the way.  God gave us all passions and gifts.  We are all motivated and excited about different things.  This is why we are known as the “body of Christ”, we are all different, but make up one whole body in Christ.  So in ministry, I do the things that I would normally do and invite others that God has placed in my life to go along for the ride.  For me that’s playing music, going out in the mountains, watching movies, playing games etc.  Those are things that I would be doing with my family and that I consider to be fun. I trust that through God’s power, they become a vehicle for God’s plan.  It is not a burden to do them.  That is the mission behind the Hangouts/Events at K House.  The people who are excited about planning activities are placing things on the calendar that they like to do and probably would be doing anyway.  If you have an idea for an activity or mission project that you would also like to be a part of, contact us and let us know....

Continuous Breakthrough: How to “Be Transformed”

It all comes from this:  “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:15 Quick Unpack: 1.  God is speaking into our lives everyday.  When this passage says “The time has come,” it refers to a kairos (an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment).  This happens to us more than we realize.  When something happens (could be good or bad), we get an “ah ha” realization.  God (“The Kingdom of God has come near”) can use...

The Difference: Lifegroup and Bible study

The two are similar in that they both function really well as a small group. A Bible study is usually a group that gets together to go over a particular passage in the Bible-the voice of God directly to us. Usually there will be a short teaching on the passage and then there are questions for reflection and discussion. Oftentimes through the sharing, relationships go deeper and great Christian friendships are sparked. In a Lifegroup the goal is to...
